Teddy Will Have Company in Hell

Former Klansman Robert Byrd, the longest serving liberal in the Senate, is reportedly near death. When he dies, the plan is to take the white sheet covering his head and extend it over his dead carcass. In the meantime, his supporters are holding a vigil outside the hospital by burning crosses in his honor.

Until recently, if you called Ted Kennedy red-faced, you were referring to the man being a booze bag, a drunk, or a lush.

But once the KGB starting declassifying its documents, red- faced Ted took on a whole different meaning.

You see, Ted did not like Ronald Reagan's policies toward the Soviet Union. So he sent one of his message boys to deliver a communication to Soviet chief Yuri Andropov. The message: I side with you against Reagan. Let's work together to ensure that Reagan is not re-elected. Let's get a Democrat in office that is more friendly to the Soviet Union.

With the 20th anniversary of the falling of the Berlin Wall, don't you think its important to note who was on the right side of history, and who worked to maintain the status quo?

Funny that this wasn't mentioned at all in any of the Teddy eulogies.

I knew that Teddy was down with the Soviets, but until I read the KGB memo below, I never knew that he was, really down with the Soviets.

What's worse, letting a woman to drown in your car, or selling out a nation?

Regarding Senator Kennedy’s request to the General Secretary of the Communist Party

Comrade Y.V. Andropov

Comrade Y.V. Andropov:

On 9-10 May of this year, Senator Edward Kennedy’s close friend and trusted confidant J. Tunney was in Moscow. The senator charged Tunney to convey the following message, through confidential contacts, to the General Secretary of the Center Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Y. Andropov.

Senator Kennedy, like other rational people, is very troubled by the current state of Soviet-American relations. Events are developing such that this relationship coupled with the general state of global affairs will make the situation even more dangerous. The main reason for this is Reagan’s belligerence, and his firm commitment to deploy new American middle range nuclear weapons within Western Europe.

According to Kennedy, the current threat is due to the President’s refusal to engage any modification on his politics. He feels that his domestic standing has been strengthened because of the well publicized improvement of the economy: inflation has been greatly reduced, production levels are increasing as is overall business activity. For these reasons, interest rates will continue to decline. The White House has portrayed this in the media as the "success of Reaganomics."

Naturally, not everything in the province of economics has gone according to Reagan’s plan. A few well known economists and members of financial circles, particularly from the north-eastern states, foresee certain hidden tendencies that many bring about a new economic crisis in the USA. This could bring about the fall of the presidential campaign of 1984, which would benefit the Democratic party. Nevertheless, there are no secure assurances this will indeed develop.

The only real threats to Reagan are problems of war and peace and Soviet-American relations. These issues, according to the senator, will without a doubt become the most important of the election campaign. The movement advocating a freeze on nuclear arsenals of both countries continues to gain strength in the United States. The movement is also willing to accept preparations, particularly from Kennedy, for its continued growth. In political and influential circles of the country, including within Congress, the resistence to growing military expenditures is gaining strength.

However, according to Kennedy, the opposition to Reagan is still very weak. Reagan’s adversaries are divided and the presentations they make are not fully effective. Meanwhile, Reagan has the capabilities to effectively counter any propaganda. In order to neutralize criticism that the talks between the USA and the USSR are non-constructive, Reagan will grandiose, but subjectively propagandistic. At the same time, Soviet officials who speak about disarmament will be quoted out of context, silenced or groundlessly and whimsically discounted. Although arguments and statements by officials of the USSR do appear in the press, it is important to note the majority of Americans do not read serious newspapers or periodicals.

Kennedy believes that, given the current state of affairs, and in the interest of peace, it would be prudent and timely to undertake the following steps to counter the militaristic politics of Reagan and his campaign to psychologically burden the American people. In this regard, he offers the following proposals to the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union Y.V. Andropov:

1. Kennedy asks Y.V. Andropov to consider inviting the senator to Moscow for a personal meeting in July of this year. The main purpose of the meeting, according to the senator, would be to arm Soviet officials with explanations regarding problems of nuclear disarmament so they may be better prepared and more convincing during appearances in the USA. He would also like to inform you that he has planned a trip through Western Europe, where he anticipates meeting England’s Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and French President Mitterand in which he will exchange similar ideas regarding the same issues.

If his proposals would be accepted in principle, Kennedy would send his representative to Moscow to resolve questions regarding organizing such a visit.

Kennedy thinks the benefits of a meeting with Y.V.Andropov will be enhanced if he could also invite one of the well known Republican senators, for example, Mark Hatfield. Such a meeting will have a strong impact on American and political circles in the USA (In March of 1982, Hatfield and Kennedy proposed a project to freeze the nuclear arsenals of the USA and USSR and pblished a book on the theme as well.)

2. Kennedy believes that in order to influence Americans it would be important to organize in August-September of this year, televised interviews with Y.V. Andropov in the USA. A direct appeal by the General Secretary to the American people will, without a doubt, attact a great deal of attention and interest in the country. The senator is convinced this would receive the maximum resonance in so far as television is the most effective method of mass media and information.

If the proposal is recognized as worthy, then Kennedy and his friends will bring about suitable steps to have representatives of the largest television companies in the USA contact Y.V. Andropov for an invitation to Moscow for the interview. Specifically, the president of the board of directors of ABC, Elton Raul and television columnists Walter Cronkite or Barbara Walters could visit Moscow. The senator underlined the importance that this initiative should be seen as coming from the American side.

Furthermore, with the same purpose in mind, a series of televised interviews in the USA with lower level Soviet officials, particularly from the military would be organized. They would also have an opportunity to appeal directly to the American people about the peaceful intentions of the USSR, with their own arguments about maintaining a true balance of power between the USSR and the USA in military term. This issue is quickly being distorted by Reagan’s administration.

Kennedy asked to convey that this appeal to the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union is his effort to contribute a strong proposal that would root out the threat of nuclear war, and to improve Soviet-American relations, so that they define the safety of the world. Kennedy is very impressed with the activities of Y.V. Andropov and other Soviet leaders, who expressed their commitment to heal international affairs, and improve mutal understandings between peoples.

The senator underscored that he eagerly awaits a reply to his appeal, the answer to which may be delivered through Tunney.

Having conveyed Kennedy’s appeal to the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Tunney also explained that Senator Kennedy has in the last few years actively made appearances to reduce the threat of war. Because he formally refused to partake in the election campaign of 1984, his speeches would be taken without prejudice as they are not tied to any campaign promises. Tunney remarked that the senator wants to run for president in 1988. At that time, he will be 56 and his personal problems, which could hinder his standing, will be resolved (Kennedy has just completed a divorce and plans to remarry in the near future). Taken together, Kennedy does not discount that during the 1984 campaign, the Democratic Party may officially turn to him to lead the fight against the Republicans and elect their candidate president. This would explain why he is convinced that none of the candidates today have a real chance at defeating Reagan.

A Moron and a Man of the Cloth

Ted Kennedy may be dead, but his legacy of making idiotic statements live on through his son Patrick, who is a Rhode Island Congressman.

Here is Patrick commenting on the Catholic Church's position of opposing any Health Care bill that would use tax dollars for abortions:

"I can’t understand for the life of me how the Catholic Church could be against the biggest social justice issue of our time where the very dignity of the human person is being respected by the fact that we’re caring and giving health care to the human person – that right now we have 50 million people who are uninsured. You mean to tell me the Catholic Church is going to be denying those people life saving health care? I thought they were pro-life. If the church is pro-life, then they ought to be for health care reform because it’s going to provide health care that are going to keep people alive. So this is an absolute red herring and I don’t think that it does anything but to fan the flames of dissent and discord and I don’t think it’s productive at all."

Rhode Island bishop, Thomas J. Tobin, responds to Kennedy's statement:

“Congressman Patrick Kennedy’s statement about the Catholic Church’s position on health care reform is irresponsible and ignorant of the facts. But the Congressman is correct in stating that “he can’t understand.” He got that part right.

As I wrote to Congressman Kennedy and other members of the Rhode Island Congressional Delegation recently, the Bishops of the United States are indeed in favor of comprehensive health care reform and have been for many years. But we are adamantly opposed to health care legislation that threatens the life of unborn children, requires taxpayers to pay for abortion, rations health care, or compromises the conscience of individuals.

Congressman Kennedy continues to be a disappointment to the Catholic Church and to the citizens of the State of Rhode Island. I believe the Congressman owes us an apology for his irresponsible comments. It is my fervent hope and prayer that he will find a way to provide more effective and morally responsible leadership for our state.”

Is there a patron saint for brain dead trust fund babies? Or is that covered by the patron saint of lost causes?

Just A Thought

The out of touch liberals in the Congress want to use the fact that "Ted is Dead" to ram through socialist health care that the majority of the country clearly does not want.

What a novel concept: The Republicans could have used Ronald Reagan's death to put a wrecking ball to the Department of Education, as well as other federal programs. (Quick note-There was no Department of Education until it was signed into law by President Carter in 1979 during his first term. Carter's second term is going on right now. Carter built the bureaucracy known as the Department of Education in return for an endorsement from the United Federation of Teachers.)

If the Democrats in Congress want to pass laws in memory of Teddy, how about raising the penalties for drunk driving and leaving the scene of an accident on federal property?

I think we may find more bipartisan support on that than on health care.

Shed A Tear For Eunice

A little more than two weeks ago, Eunice Kennedy Shriver died at 88. Upon her death, the Shriver family received a letter of condolence from Pope Benedict. When Teddy died this week, no such letter arrived in Hyannis Port.

Pope Benedict knows what all of America should know: That Eunice Kennedy Shriver devoted her life to the twin causes of special needs children and the rights of the unborn.

Eunice's devotion to special needs children can be traced back to her relationship with her sister Rosemary. Rosemary Kennedy was three years older than Eunice and was a special needs child. Unfortunately, she did not receive the help she needed at home and was sent off to an institution at age 23. In an act of unspeakable cruelty, Joseph Kennedy had a prefrontal lobotomy performed on Rosemary. (Admittedly, it seems sometimes that Ted was the one with the lobotomy.)

The family was told not to visit Rosemary, that it would be too upsetting to her. And that's how it was for a lot of families with special needs children in those days. It was something not talked about, you send the kid away and that was that.

But Eunice Kennedy did not go along with that kind of thinking. You see, Eunice did not forget her sister. She did not stay away. In fact, she regularly visited her sister-for over 60 years until Rosemary passed away in 2005.

From her visits with Rosemary, Eunice saw that you don't lock away special needs children and throw away the key. No, Eunice saw that you engage them, you hug them, and you love them.

Now Eunice could have attended charity dinners and written big checks on behalf of these kids.

But that was not her way. From the Washington Post:

I think that really the only way you change people's attitudes or behavior is to work with them," Eunice told an interviewer. "Not write papers or serve on committees. Who's going to work with the child to change him -- with the juvenile delinquent and the retarded? Who's going to teach them to swim? To catch a ball? You have to work with the person. It's quite simple, actually."

She was hands on. She began working on behalf of these children in the 1950's. In 1961, when he brother became President, she got him to devote tax dollars to study the causes of and more humane treatment of the mentally disabled. In 1962, she started a summer camp for mentally disabled children and also wrote a groundbreaking article in the Saturday Evening Post revealing Rosemary's story for the first time, and urging Americans that these children should be locked away and forgotten about.

The summer camp Eunice started eventually grew into what is her greatest known legacy: the Special Olympics competition which she founded. The first special Olympics took place in 1968. About 1,000 kids/adults participated, all from the United States. It has grown to where now 2.5 million participate, from 180 countries.

When the Special Olympics first began, people questioned Eunice on whether the athletes had the capabilities of dealing with losing. Here was Eunice's response, from the Washington Post:

Shriver told The Post in 1987 that she had "heard a lot of that" and that it was "a lot of baloney."
"What proof have they got that as a group of people they can't take losing?" she said. "Who? Where does it come from, that idea? Somebody cries because they lose? I can tell you 50 people who cry -- I go and watch my own kids cry when they lose."

You, see, to Eunice, kids were kids. Kennedy kids born in wealth- and disabled kids born into adversity- she saw no distinction. Each was a child of God.

While Eunice's work with Special Olympics is publicly known, her work on behalf of the right to life movement is not known by many. But if you think about it, is it really any surprise that someone who devoted so much of her heart to the disabled would also take up the cause of the most defenseless among us-the unborn?

A devout Catholic, Eunice was a member of several pro-life organizations, and was one of the few Democrats who spoke out against its abortion plank in its 1992 platform. In addition, in a letter to the New York Times, she denounced a pro-abortion group for misrepresenting John Kennedy's views on abortion.

Eunice is largely responsible with how America has changed in how we interact and understand those with special needs. She made their lives better. In addition, she was no lock- step liberal, who signed onto the culture of death. She put conscience ahead of party loyalty. What a legacy.

You know, when a Bishop turns 75, he must submit his resignation to the Pope. The Pope is free to accept or reject the resignation letter.

When Pope John Paul II received Cardinal O'Connor's (pictured with Eunice above) resignation letter, he was asked if he would accept it. The Pope rejected the notion out of hand, reportedly saying that he wished he had a John O'Connor to appoint in every church around the world.

When it comes to Eunice vs. Teddy, I feel the way John Paul felt about Cardinal O'Connor. For every vote Ted cast, for every speech he gave, and for every law he authored, I wish it were Eunice.

He Killed Her And Found It Funny

Ed Klein is a former editor of Newsweek and a friend of Ted Kennedy. Klein was on a radio show this week talking about his fallen friend. While filling the airwaves with praise and admiration for all things Ted, Klein let his guard down-way down- and said the following:

"I don't know if you know this or not, but one of his favorite topics of humor was indeed Chappaquiddick itself. And he would ask people, "have you heard any new jokes about Chappaquiddick?" That is just the most amazing thing. It's not that he didn't feel remorse about the death of Mary Jo Kopechne, but that he still always saw the other side of everything and the ridiculous side of things, too."

Isn't it great to know that after causing Mary Jo's death and receiving no punishment under the law, Ted found the whole thing funny? That it was a source of amusement? Who is Ted's favorite comedian-Jeffrey Dahmer?

The difference between Chambers and Kennedy, of course, is that Chambers did 15 years in prison, and Teddy did 47 years in the Senate.

Can someone remind me once again why this man should be admired, revered and emulated?

Not A Incident or Accident

I talked yesterday with two friends who are younger than me about Ted Kennedy. (Out of privacy concerns, I do not want to reveal their names. Let's call them "Tonja" & "Tamalia".)

During the last few days, both learned for the first time about Ted Kennedy leaving Mary Jo to die in a lake.

I thought about it, and it was not so surprising that it took Teddy's death to learn about this. You see, the main stream press never brought up the incident unless Teddy was running for President. His past never was part of the present.

Even now, you hear words like "incident" or "accident" or phrases like "he overcame Chappaquiddick".

Lets be clear: the only accident was the car crashing into the lake. Every action Ted took over the next 10 hrs had a purpose, nothing he did was by accident; it was all by design.

As for overcoming the situation, that would be funny if there wasn't a dead girl found in a lake.

You see, Teddy never paid a price for what he did to Mary Jo. He never went to jail.

There has never been a sense of closure about this case. You know why? Because a crime was committed, woman died, and the guilty went free.

At last year's Democratic Convention they gave Teddy a video tribute. Here are my remarks written at that time:

Teddy Tribute: I'm Shocked, No Mary Jo?

I'm going to say that Mary Jo was driving- Ted (The Swimmer) Kennedy

I just watched the Ted Kennedy video tribute at the Democratic Convention. Holy sh*t. Just about the whole thing took place in the ocean. On the water. How much Teddy loves the water.

Talk about having no sense of shame. Do you think it would have crossed the film makers mind to say "hey, let's go easy on Teddy loving the ocean thing, out of respect for Mary Jo".

Here's a much more accurate depiction of Teddy's love for water:

During the summer of 1969, Teddy was at a party where he was heavily drinking. He left the party with a woman- Mary Joe Kopechne. (Not his wife.) He drove his car off a bridge into a lake. (At the time, his license was suspended for reckless driving, but rules don't apply to Ted.) Ted was able to get to the shore right away. (Michael Phelps has nothing on Teddy.) He suffered no injuries. Mary Jo was still locked in the car underwater.

Ted walked past several homes that had the lights on. People were home and all he had to do was knock to get help for Mary Jo. But he didn't.

Ted made it back to outside the house of the party. He did not want a lot of people to see him. He saw his servant; he made him get two men who always helped Teddy get out of trouble, his lawyer and his cousin. They were Teddy's fixers. (Or more correctly Kennedy family fixers.)

Teddy and the two fixers walked back to the lake. It was now two hours after Mary Jo was left in the car in the lake. The two fixers continually urged Teddy to call the authorities, to get help for Mary Jo. Teddy refused. He kept muttering "How could this happen to me?"

The two fixers jumped into the lake in a vain attempt to save Mary Jo. Teddy still would not let them call for help.

Over the next 8 hrs. Teddy went back and forth about how he could he get out of this mess. Can he say that Mary Jo was driving? That she dropped him off? That one of the fixer's were driving? During that time, he never called for help or allowed the two fixers to call. He also demanded that the fixers not tell anyone at the party what happened.

Teddy only admitted the incident to the authorities after he saw that the body was found.

Ten hours after the accident, the car that Teddy was driving was found half submerged in the lake. The license plate was traced back to Teddy.

Scientific evidence suggests that Mary Jo may have suffocated, rather than drown. If this is true, Mary Jo would have been alive for several hours, crucial hours that emergency workers could have used to save her life. But they were never called.

An autopsy was never performed; Teddy quickly reached an agreement with Mary Jo's family, he (or more likely, his father) paid the family $90,000. The insurance company kicked in another $50,000.

He received a slap on the wrist, gave a speech where he said his "family was cursed" and went back to the Senate.

That's the Teddy who loves the water. That's the Teddy who is the health care advocate-except of course, if you need immediate health care because you are trapped in a car underwater.

What a guy.

A Man of Slander

A mere 45 minutes after President Reagan nominated Robert Bork for the Supreme Court, Ted Kennedy took to the floor of the Senate and made the following statement:

Robert Bork's America is a land in which women would be forced into back-alley abortions, blacks would sit down at segregated lunch counters, rogue police could break down citizens’ doors in midnight raids, schoolchildren could not be taught about evolution, writers and artists would be censored at the whim of government, and the doors of the Federal courts would be shut on the fingers of millions of citizens for whom the judiciary is often the only protector of the individual rights that are the heart of democracy.- Ted Kennedy

It was a new low-even for him.

Rarely had a man lied so much on so many issues in so few words.

It was remarkable for its slander; each sentence was a lie, and Teddy knew it.

Because of this slanderous speech, Teddy is responsible for a new work in the dictionary:

to bork, or borking

Don't think it was a coincidence that the place Teddy chose to give the speech was on the floor of the Senate. Every statement made by Senators on the floor of the Senate is immune from the laws of slander & libel.

Mary Jo

On this day, my thoughts are with the Kopechne family. Mary Jo Kopechne was 29 when she was killed. She would have been 69 if she were with us today.

Give It A More Deserving Name

The other day I was on the Triborough Bridge, and it occurred to me: its not the Triborough Bridge anymore. Last year, in a very pompous ceremony, the TBTA renamed the Triborough Bridge after Robert F. Kennedy.

This is a real head -scratcher for me. You see, most public works are named after people who had something to do with their creation, or helped promote that particular field. Thus, I understand naming a Space Program after John Kennedy or an Airport after Fiorello LaGuardia.

Hell, I would even support naming a whorehouse after Elliot Spitzer.

But renaming the Triborough bridge after Robert Kennedy? What is the connection between RFK and the Triborough bridge? Or more generally, what is the connection between RFK and public works?

There is no connection.

The Triborough bridge is yet another one of Robert Moses' public works. It is a engineering marvel that connects Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx. It opened in July, 1936- 28 years before RFK became a NY Senator and 25 years before RFK as Attorney General, began illegally wiretapping Martin Luther King.

Wouldn't an illegal phone monitoring device be a more appropriate thing to name after RFK?

As for the Kennedy family, you would think they would have a little humility about bridges, after Uncle Teddy "The Swimmer" and his history with bridges.

It's like a knife manufacturer coming out with the "O.J. Simpson Steak Knife Collection."

Finally, in all seriousness, if you want to rename the Triborough Bridge, why not name it after one of the great engineers or architects that worked under Robert Moses and had a pivotal role in its creation? These men have been lost to history, something that the Kennedy family does not have to worry about.

Explain It to Me Like I Was a Child

All right. Explain this to me like I'm a five-year-old, okay?
Because there's an element to this thing
that I cannot get through my thick head-Denzel Washington-"Philadelphia"

Years ago I saw a movie where Denzel Washington was a lawyer. Someone begins to explain something to Denzel and Denzel stops the guy in his tracks. "Explain it to me like I was a five year old kid. Don't assume I know anything" Denzel told the guy.

I loved it and I got it. I immediately adopted it as my own philosophy. During work if something important was being discussed and I did not understand it, I would stop the person and have them explain it to me in plain English. Break it down for me please. Once I understood, we could move forward. It was Denzel's philosophy put to real-life use, and it continues to be my philosophy today.

Now, as you remember,a few months back, the state of New York renamed the Triborough Bridge after Robert F. Kennedy. At the time I was puzzled,because RFK was not at the forefront of public works projects like bridge building, nor was he at all involved with the building of the Triborough.

I remember thinking, why is RFK such a hero to so many?

Do self-described liberals who venerate RFK know his history?

Given the two facts below, can anyone explain to me why he is a liberal icon? And don't leave anything out; break it down for me as if I were a little kid.

Fact # 1

As Attorney General of the United States, RFK authorized the FBI to wire tap the phone's in Martin Luther King's house. He authorized the wiretapping of King's office in Atlanta. He authorized the wiretapping of King's office in New York. He authorized the wiretapping of the hotel rooms King stayed in.

The wiretaps were removed by the next Attorney General, Nicholas Katzenbach.

Were these wiretaps approved by a Court? No. Were they signed by a judge? No. Prior to installation, was there any evidence that King violated any federal laws? Absolutely not.

What an egregious abuse of power. All directed at an innocent man. All directed at a innocent Civil Rights hero.

When President Bush told America that the feds would listen in to overseas calls of suspected terrorists, the left lost its collective mind.

Yet, when Kennedy used the same tactics, no worse tactics (since it was in secret, not approved by law,and used against a true American hero) the left gives him a pass.

Tell me why.

Fact # 2

If you had to make a list of historical figures that are absolutely hated by the left, the late Senator from Wisconsin, Joe McCarthy would be at the top of the list.

Liberals will tell you that Senator McCarthy was on a witch-hunt accusing federal government employees of being communists or Soviet spies.

They abhorred his tactics, said he knowingly accused citizens of false charges, and ruined many lives.

They even coined a phrase in his dishonor: McCarthyism-smearing an enemy on false or non-existent charges.

Books & movies have vilified Senator Joe for the last 50 years. He is cursed in polite society. 50 years after his death, his name is synonymous with out of control witch-hunts that destroy people's lives regardless of the evidence.

But you know who loved and admired Tail-gunner Joe McCarthy? Robert Kennedy did. You see, when McCarthy held his Senate hearings his wing-man was RFK. RFK was his chief legal counsel during the hearings, and sat at the same table as Old Joe.

RFK provided Old Joe with the legal strategy to hunt down would-be Communists.

And as I said above, he loved and admired Old Joe. Why do I say that? Well, when RFK had his first child, whom did he ask to be the Godfather? Was it future President JFK? No. Was it future drunk Teddy the Swimmer? No. It was Tail-gunner Joe with whom he bestowed such an honor!
