It was very disheartening to see 2 young men were stabbed to death on the subway yesterday. When I read about it, it sounded like a crime story out of pre-Rudy New York. I can't put any cash on it, but I do sense an uptick in crime & lawlessness in NYC recently. Forget about health insurance, in the bad old days in NYC, crime was so bad, if you were a regular subway commuter it was considered a preexisting condition which would mean insurance companies could deny you life insurance.
Here is the equation that we need to avoid:
NYC + 1970's level of crime - financial services industry = modern day Detroit
Don't say it can't happen.
