Legal Eagle Has A Whole New Meaning....

There is a lot of conflict going on in this country. Republican vs. Democrats, Capitalists vs. Democrats, and Military supporters vs. Democrats are just a few of fights being waged.

But swan vs. swan? In my beloved Prospect Park? Say it ain't so!

But it is so. The NYT article below tells of how there are two separate families of swans in Prospect Park. They live on opposite sides of the lake. Apparently, one family is intent on rubbing out the other family. According to the NYT, the biggest swan goes around trying to drown the smaller swans in the other family.

I must confess last Sunday, I did see the big swan do this. But at the time, it looked like some sort of fraternity prank to me. (I love watching the swans when they fly and then land in the lake. They skid along the top of the water like Sully landing a plane in the Hudson.)

Some issues: If the swan family is targeting only other swans, couldn't that, in Obama world be considered a hate crime?

Don't laugh. One of Obama's "czars", Cass Sunstein wants to give animals the same legal right as people. Check it out:

Animals should be permitted to bring suit, with human beings as their representatives, to prevent violations of current law … Any animals that are entitled to bring suit would be represented by (human) counsel, who would owe guardian like obligations and make decisions, subject to those obligations, on their clients’ behalf - Cass Sunstein

Hey, if Sunstein had his way, Michael Vick's salary this year would be divided up by a bunch of pit bulls.

Sunstein, in a speech at Harvard (where else?) has more ideas:

Sunstein also argued in favor of “eliminating current practices such as greyhound racing, cosmetic testing, and meat eating, most controversially.”He concluded his Harvard speech by expressing his “more ambitious animating concern” that the current treatment of livestock and other animals should be considered “a form of unconscionable barbarity not the same as, but in many ways morally akin to, slavery and mass extermination of human beings."

Hey: When they came for the car companies, I did not say anything. When they came for the banks, I was silent. When they came for my steak, there was no one left to speak up for me.

What do you say about a person who would equate Peter Luger's with the KKK?

Under Obama, not only the inmates running the asylum, pretty soon they will be joined by the animals.
